Australia: Byron Bay

THINGS TO DO

Viewpoints: Hike up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse or if a long walk is more your speed, head to Tallow Beach

Beaches: Clarkes; The Pass; Belongil; Wategos; Lake Ainsworth at Ti Tree Lake (swimming lake)

Places: You absolutely have to stop at The Farm at Byron Bay on the way in to or out of Byron. The wait for a table may be long but you can spend time walking around the farm and picking hazelnuts and sitting on the gratitude bench and it is glorious. (Think less pretentious, less expensive, smaller, tastier Soho Farmhouse)

Shopping: Check out the Centennial Circuit Warehouse District, a cluster of cool surf shops and locally owned boutiques. Back in town there are SO many cutie boutique-y spots for you to dip in and out of

Day Trips, waterfalls and walks: Killen Falls; Minyon Falls; Broken Head; Arakwal National ParkBurleigh Beach; MullimbimbyBrunswick Heads

EAT

Top Shop Order an acai bowl and plop down on the lawn to take in the morning sun with the locals.

The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co – Hemsworth brothers sighting.

Rae’s on Wategos for Moreton Bay Bug linguine and a crisp glass of pale pink rosé (make sure you book)

The Mez Club for Greek tapas. Looks better than it tastes (give this a miss)

Harvest in Newrybar. 4 mins from Hinterland go for lunch or brunch.

Bayleaf Café. Casual lunch, brunch spot, YES GO

Federal Doma Café. An outdoor Japanese-Australian fusion joint. This place is an absolute must: handmade nori rolls, the freshest sashimi salad, crispy fried chicken sandwiches, and grilled halloumi burgers are just a few of the delights worth waiting for. It’s cash only and BYOB so stop in the general store next door for cold beer to accompany your meal.
