Sifnos

I was in Sifnos for my best friend’s wedding. Unlike other places I have visited, I didn’t actually explore Sifnos as much as I normally would have done, because I was busy being Maid of Honour.

That said, it is a beautiful island with lots of wonderful places to eat and explore. So you ever make it to this stunning, almost secret island, you can write and tell me all about it.

THINGS TO DO

Beaches: Sifnos offers beautiful sandy beaches but also a lot of rocky bays. Chrisopigi Take one of the little paths beyond the church and walk down to the flat rocks on the water. Vroulidia is one of the most beautiful beaches on the north part of the island. Poulati Head here on a day that’s not windy. The area is covered in bamboo and olive trees. Faros is a beach in a charming fishermen’s village. Walk past a café called Gorgona, climb the stairs and you’ll get to the beautiful bigger beach of Glyfos. Platys Gialos A long sandy cosmopolitan beach with lots of hotels and beach bars; Kamares Beach One of the cleanest and longest beaches with crystal waters; Vathy A small bay with sandy shore and crystal water.

AreasXeronisos – at the extremity of the island, where the landscape gets rougher, the wind blows and the waves crash against the cliffs (nice lobster pasta restaurant at end of bay – not much other wise) Artemonas  is a beautiful typical Cycladic village. Apolonia which is the main village of the island. Kastro One of the oldest villages on top of a small hill. Head to the bar there for a drink. The owner of the bar is a big fan of Fidel Castro and there are picture of him everywhere!
